a hurricane in all kinds of weather

One of my most favoritest movies ever is Beetlejuice. So, when getting my hair cut yesterday, Mel wanted to give me bangs a la Winona Ryder as Lydia, I couldn't say no.

Don't worry, we didn't go gothic. They look more like this:

A few surprising facts about Beeteljuice I just learned:
Tim Burton originally wanted Sammy Davis, Jr. to play Beetlejuice. He also had plans for a sequel, Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian. If only.

[Edit] Ok fine, in response to the comments, here you go.

sytycd

I was months behind on Lost, Grey's Anatomy, and Gossip Girl, but when you put your mind to it you can accomplish anything. Now that I'm all caught up, I can devote myself to So You Think You Can Dance. Does this show make everyone wonder if they should have been a dancer, or just me?

Here be my favorite choreography of last night, to Hot Chip no less.
(scroll forward to the dance itself at 2:30 if you wish)

Who is this new coif-wild choreographer Sonya Tayeh?

SYTYCD, bring her back again!

But I can't help but wish Kourtni had danced this with Mark. He's my number 1. When asked what his favorite dance moments from movies, TV and/or stage are, his response is "2 words 'The Frug'......GENIUS!" Och. Good Answer.

part of The Frug in Sweet Charity (Bob Fosse):

The cool thing about this season is that I love almost everyone. Except Chris. That manchild has GOT to go. Oh and Chelsea Hightower. Blech.

relief

I have been having some serious iTunes drama in which it would freeze when playing music from my external hard drive. I had just about convinced myself to get a new computer with a huge hard drive that would hold all my music. But reformatting the drive and uninstalling/reinstalling/rereinstalling iTunes seemed to be the cheaper option. So now I can finally access my music again. Hallelujah!

And a Hallelujah for new Radio Dept.! They'll have a new album, Clinging to a Scheme, out in September. Freddie & The Trojan Horse is the first single. It's scary how good The Radio Dept. is. I would make a movie to let them soundtrack it, I would get married to have them be my wedding band.

Poppies

I'm enamored with the poppies at my local library. In fact, I couldn't get them out of my head.

So I embroidered some and made them into a pillow. It looks like red, but it's really a very bright orange. I think I like it too much to sell it.

New Tilly & The Wall Out Today!

And it is good! The last album was a bit of a disappointment, so well done on o. The first ep and album will always be my favorite. The sound on this album is more full, more produced, more complex. Having to accept that Tilly won't ever be the same as they were back then is easier when they can put out a record like this. iTunes has it DRM-free with a bonus track and digital booklet, which was worth the extra dollar over the Amazon download. Upon the first few listens, this is one of the standout tracks.

Tillky & The Wall are touring, starting in SLC! They are a must see. See dates.

my dear

I used to love the Twiddlebugs. I love itsy bitsy stuff. So I couldn't resist buying this old Twiddlebug book at the D.I. Except these uns are clay, not Muppet skin. And they have different names. Maybe they are the pre-Twiddle Twiddles.

twiddlebugs eat

And what luck! There is a Muppet wiki all about the Twiddles. And of course, all sorts of Twiddle on YouTube.

worldly

I have to say, this Etsy thing is mucho fun. More than just for the money. Today I sent off a vintage bag to Norway. While looking around to make sure I was writing the address correctly, Google Maps told me this is what it looks like in the neighborhood in Tromsø I was shipping to. Pretty cool, eh? Don't worry, if you buy something from me I won't actually stalk you. Probably.

A Very Ghetto Father's Day

father's day

My dad is hard to get presents for because he tends to forget to use them. So these days I go for the cheap but thoughtful presents. For Father's Day I took a fat quarter of soft woven fabric and made it into a hanky with a hand rolled hem and hand embroidered monogram. Got the idea here. And since my Dad is a good music appreciator, a mix cd is always a safe bet. These are a few of the father-friendly tracks selected from my recent listenings. I've been enjoying the new albums from these artists a lotty lot (thanks, Dirk).

Bad, lazy blogger. Rather be making stuff, like these.

my 1st quilt

for baby ren

My first quilt, for Alison & Sam's Baby Ren. The machine quilting is super sloppy but I'm still happy with the outcome.

cush

pinny

Needed a new pin cushion and something to do while I hung out with my Mom tonight. So I raided her 30s reproduction stash and vintage buttons and whipped this up. The pattern is super easy and from this book by the genius of Purl.

Sorry, Maddy

Madonna, I love you. But Hard Candy was so phoned in, it's hilarious. Right down to the recycled title and your guest Kanye's rhyming "now" with "now" and "now."
