People it is here. Libbie Linton has finished her first full length album, some of which you can listen to at her myspace. It's beautiful and thrilling. Please go see her upcoming shows in Logan and SLC. Especially the CD release on April 23 at the TSC Auditorium at USU. Oh, and how much do you love that album cover designed by Jory Jory Dayne? ps. Libbie's birthday is July 4th so it is fun to think that Libbie is short for Liberty, even though it's really Elisabeth. Banjo for freedom!

Note to aspiring musicians: maintain a following of more than 20 people before you name a foundation after yourself, throw a benefit concert featuring yourself, and dubiously claim that "some" proceeds will go to giving "opportunities" to "people." Really.

The point is, someone had the good sense to feature her at this show last Saturday to raise money for a good cause. Because it might have been a long time before I got this video of her cover of Erasure's "A Little Respect" (a song I had stuck in my head my entire sophomore year of college, no joke).

Here's a little treat I've been listening to a lot lately. This is Libbie Linton: scientist by day, musical ninja by night. Do not be fooled by whatever you might assume when you see a girl and her guitar. She can be intense--not in an angry or sad way, but in a break the strings cause I'm so real way. Sincere and unaffected, with a charmingly idiosyncratic voice, she's been told that the influence of Sufjan can be heard in her songs, each of which stands alone as a solid piece. Be excited because her debut, The Shackleton EP, is available very soon. And if you're in the area, see her at Kilby Court in Salt Lake this Wednesday for somewhat of a cd release party.
