woops johnny woops

I like the Red Hot Chili Peppers as much as the next kid, but this new song that's everywhere hasn't impressed me, though the video rocks. (Watch it on myspace.) For this band, I'm not so sure the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. I'm quite fond of Flea, Anthony, and John Frusciante individually. (Sorry, other guy, you'll always just be the one who looks like Will Ferrell.) In fact, despite the odd 6 albums in 6 months thing, I do have a bit of an affinity for John. Maybe it was his comeback from Behind The Music-ish depths or his dedicated practice schedule or his rocker hair. So at the moment I'd rather listen to this:

mp3: John Frusciante - Murderers
from To Record Only Water For Ten Days, 2001. Just a guitar and a drum machine. mmm.

mp3: John Frusciante - The Past Recedes
from Curtains, 2005. A bit Cat Stevens-ish.
