sgood.

While I haven't been blogging I've been listening too the CMJ 2008 sampler from Insound. If you never downloaded this free mix I think you can still get it here. Free samplers rarely impress but for a couple weeks it was almost all I listened to. It's just fresh enough and varied enough and as a whole is a very lovely mix. I was in a bit of a music slump and it has inspired a flurry of new music acquisition. I was gonna post a few favorites, like Crystal Stilts, Longwave, Cut Off Your Hands, Army Navy... but the whole thing is just so good. Go get it.

cleaning out the inbox

Here's a little something I received from Holland I've been meaning to mention. Yoshimi! is the moniker of a one man multi-instrumentalist who's second ep you can download for free on his website. You know, the line between brilliant and grown man in mom's basement is fuzzy. Maybe it depends on the level self-awareness and I don't have a good sense of that here yet. Like sometimes I'm unsure how purposeful some of the dissonance actually is. It's likely this is more of a childlike exploration since now I think Yoshimi! is actually like, 13. Maybe he can cash in on that kid band thing that's going on. You can judge for yourself since it's free, but this particular track is worth checking out. First it makes you want to listen to "When Doves Cry" but then turns into a silly tribal thing, and then I just think, I want to have a dance party at the zoo!

the good people at The Internet

I'd watch anything with little Mikey Cera. Somewhere in the docket is Juno. Fox Searchlight is rolling out the free screenings and it's working because the buzz is building. Lucky for us there are three in Salt Lake City. RSVP here to one of the many in the U.S. and Canada.

If you want a more instantly gratifying fix, visit Clark and Michael. You're lucky you don't have to watch me giggle as I watch it. It's not just that Michael's adorable, it's freaking funny too. And now this post is making me remember a dream I had where I had to ask Michael Cera if he was over 18 and later someone tried to kidnap some little kids.

ok ok aha ha

I haven't been able to kneel since Saturday when I wonkified my knee with some intense dancing at Jory's housewarming. I think it was worth it though, I was overdue for some good cavorting and good music. And I have it all figured out. Jory, next time let's dance a routine to this. For serious.

mp3: Hadouken! - Tuning In (H! Re-Rub)

This is the track I've been obsessed wth from the Kitsune Maison 4 mix. I can't get over the yeah, yeah, yeah- yeah- yeah- yeah...'s. Although when I really listen to it, as a girl it's a bit off-putting--unless of course they're being ironic. Eh, just as long as it makes me dance. See Kate Mosh for a little intro to Hadouken.

An aside, at first the vocals reminded me a bit of Robbie Williams, so of course then I had to watch the Rock DJ video. Back in the day, I recorded it from tv onto vhs and for a month forced everyone who came over to watch it despite their protests. I'll spare you the YouTube this time, but watch it here. If you've never seen this classic it's a must. Hot and grod.

While we're at it, if you're willing to give up an email address, you can get a free Hadouken mixtape over at hadouken.co.uk, featuring the likes of Bloc Party, Wiley, Uffie, Mr. Oizo, The Klaxons, Fox n Wolf, etc.

Belle & Sebastian Summercase mix

Beans of Belle & Sebastian has a recorded a mix of what he played recently at their Summercase festival dj set and made it available for download here. Above is the sleeve art he provided. I was lucky enough to see Beans dj last year and I love his sensibility. This one's a nice blend, a bit of dancehall, r&b, funk, nostalgia, and new classics. [via B&S news]

cheap as free

Online record store Insound has made a second digital compilation which for a week you can download for free, without having to buy anything from them. You'll get the likes of "Heart It Races," the super duper first single from the upcoming Architecture in Helsinki album. These tracks are just album versions, no remixes or unreleased, and honestly many of them are probably available from the artists' own websites anyway. But hey, it's one click and it's free and legal.
Go here to download.

p.s. Watch the "Heart It Races" video here.
